What are the responsibilities and job description for the LIFT Driver (Paratransit) position at Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority?
Are you looking for a rewarding career, but want to get out from behind a desk or off the production floor? Are you caring and compassionate? Do you have a heart for the disabled and elderly population of Erie County? We are looking for dedicated, compassionate LIFT drivers.
EMTA passengers include all walks of life – senior citizens, children with behavioral health issues, students, physically challenged (using mobility devices), and the general public. LIFT provides transportation to these Erie County residents, offering door-to-door service for these passengers. Generally, the LIFT operates throughout Erie County; however, EMTA will transport residents as far south as Pittsburgh for specialty doctor appointments.
Hours of operation: Monday – Saturday. 5a – 11pm. LIFT drivers can work a 3-hour day or up to a 12-hour day. Drivers may work split shifts (ex: 7a-10a and then 1:45p-5:45p). Schedules vary from week to week. Schedules are posted weekly. EMTA is seeking applicants that are flexible, and available to work various shifts. Saturday hours are required for all new LIFT employees.
EMTA requires all applicants to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and DOT drug screening prior to hire. EMTA operates under the jurisdiction of the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) and as such, medical marijuana is not permissible. LIFT drivers are subject to random drug and alcohol testing as this position is considered “safety sensitive.” FTA also requires that drivers be at least 21 years of age or older.
Applicants must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with a minimum of 3 years driving experience. Applicants must have a clean criminal background and be able to obtain PA Child Abuse Clearance Certificate once every 5 years.
Currently, the starting rate for LIFT driver is $15.47/hourly and the top rate is $18.87/hourly. Pay progression takes 3 years to reach the top pay rate. Training is paid at the starting rate and may last approximately 4-6 weeks. The dress code for training and driving is a blue collared shirt, black or blue cotton pants (no jeans), and brown or black shoes. Drivers receive a uniform allowance at the completion of probationary period.
Full-time LIFT employees enjoy a generous benefit package including access to major medical insurance, prescription coverage, vision, and dental coverage. Full-time LIFT employees enjoy paid holidays, vacation and sick time (earned by contract language). Full-time employees are also eligible to participate in a company retirement plan with a 3% company match.
