Job Summary:

A Patient Safety Assistant (Sitter) at Erlanger Health System is responsible for sitting with patients to provide basic care, continuous observation of patients, and documentation of behavior. The sitter works with the clinical staff of Womens' and Children's departments to provide a safe environment for the patient.

Patient care or other healthcare experience, Caretaker or prior Sitting experience.

Good reading, writing and communication skills.

BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.

Department Position Summary:

The Patient Safety Assistant (sitter) is responsible for sitting with patients to observe and document behavior. Continuous interaction with patient, visitors/family and hospital staff is a primary function. The Patient Safety Assistant (sitter) must remain with the patient until relieved by another sitter or a hospital staff member. All patient safety assistants (sitters) are responsible for basic patient care that include but not limited to ambulating, assisting with basic hygiene needs, and feeding. The patient safety assistant must be willing to travel to all Erlanger campuses as assigned.

The Patient Safety Assistant (sitter) must demonstrate exceptional people skills, the ability to handle complaints and resolve conflict when necessary.
