Yard Jockey Job Summary:
This position is responsible for efficiently and safely moving trailers in and out of dock doors and to the designated areas coordinating with the warehouse team and performing material handling tasks as needed. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a smooth flow of operations in the yard.
Yard Jockey Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate yard trucks and spotting equipment to move trailers within the
yard and to the designated spots in an orderly and efficient manner.
- Ensure the efficient and safe positioning of trailers for loading and unloading operations.
- Collaborate with warehouse and office teams to prioritize trailer movements based on operational needs.

Must perform Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections on yard equipment.
- Inform proper parties of defective equipment and knowledge of out-of-service policies.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, yard and warehouse.
- Effectively communicate with warehouse leads and office personnel the trailer numbers and dock doors associated with them.
- Report any issues, delays, or incidents promptly to supervisors and relevant personnel.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure a seamless flow of operations.
- Move, load, and unload food products, materials, and/or packages by hand, pallet jack, or forklift from trailers and railcars as needed.
- Follow all food safety processes and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Yard Jockey Education and Experience:

Required: Valid Driver’s License
- Required: Possess a willingness to learn to operate tractor-trailers on private property
- Preferred: 1 year tractor/trailer experience
- Preferred: CDL or willing to obtain
Yard Jockey Physical and/or Travel Requirements:
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions

Extended periods of standing, walking, and operating equipment
- Can perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds at a time.
