Teaching Assistant Job Summary

Erna Krouch Preschool is seeking Teaching Assistants to work in our upcoming 2025-26 school year. Our assistant teachers work a few different schedule options. Typical hours for this position are 8:30 am - 3:00 pm but we also have 8:30 am - 12:30 pm hours. Some options include Monday, Wednesday,Friday and some options include Tuesday, Thursday. There are also options to work Monday - Friday.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Our teaching assistants help develop young minds by supporting students as they establish a daily classroom routine and become part of a positive, active, nurturing, and safe learning environment. Our teacher to staff ratios are below DHS recommended levels and allow for more one-on-one time with the children. Below are several of the specific responsibilities for this job.

• Help manage a busy classroom environment and provide the structure and positive guidance required for successful learning
• Support the Lead Teacher with administrative tasks, individualized student attention, and behavior management
• Assist children in practicing daily health routines including hand washing, diaper changing, potty training, eating, and following emergency procedures
• Welcome students at drop-off and prepare them for pickup and other transitions
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to create an optimal learning and care environment
• Work as a team with families to ensure students’ needs are met at school
• Treat children and adults from a wide variety of cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds fairly and equitably
• Complete 12 hours of early childhood education per year, as well as maintain CPR and First Aid certification

JOB SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: A successful Teaching Assistant needs to have a strong set of skills to perform their required job duties, such as patience, organization, communication, empathy, and problem-solving.

REQUIRED

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Submit to a criminal background check upon hire
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and to participate in classroom activities

PREFERRED

• Previous experience working with young children

PAY AND BENEFITS: The Teaching Assistant pay level varies depending on education and experience. Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour
