Bulk Tanker Driver
A. Job Identification
Pick up, transport and delivery of materials required for the production of ready mix concrete. This position reports to the Fleet Manager.
B. Essential Job Functions
- Perform Pre-Trip inspections of the tractor and bulk tanker/trailer in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
- Maneuver truck in a safe manner while at loading terminal, during operation on all roads and while unloading at plant locations.
- Communicate with supervisor for assignment of scheduled terminal load pick up.
- Communicate with load master at designated terminal for loading instructions.
- Proceed to hatch stand, climb onto platform, if available, release and open hatch. If no platform, driver must climb ladder attached to tanker/trailer.
- Proceed to scales, ensure tanker position is in correct loading area, receive load.
- Check load to ensure weight is within regulations. If overweight, blow off excess material while at terminal. You are responsible for any overweight/overload citations.
- Retrieve Bill of Lading from weight master.
- Return to hatch stand, climb onto tanker, close and secure hatch.
- Transport materials to designated plant in a safe manner observing all laws and regulations.
- Submit Bill of Lading to Batch person.
- Proceed to plant to unload materials.
- Comply with all D.O.T. regulations. (Intrastate operators must complete logs for inspections at weigh stations.)
- Exterior and interior of tractor must be maintained in a clean manner.
- Exterior of bulk tanker/trailer must be maintained in a clean manner.
- Perform the duties of ready mix concrete truck driver, dump truck driver or other duties as assigned.
C. Job Requirements
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Must be able to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors.
- Must be able to communicate with management, supervisors, co-workers, vendors and customers in a diplomatic manner in varied situations.
- Must be able to do math, such as addition, subtraction, fractions and percentages.
- Must have and maintain a valid Georgia issued class A Commercial Drivers License with the Tanker endorsement.
- Must be able to pass required Federal Department of Transportation drug/alcohol screenings and physicals.
- Must maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier Regulations and company policy.
- Must be able to operate vehicle and perform tasks in a safe manner and observe all safety requirements and policies.
D. Physical Demands
- This is moderately strenuous work. The driver must climb in and out of truck approximately 20 times per day.
- Each truck is equipped with pedals and a gear shifter which are used to control the many parts of the truck while driving. The driver must have coordination between hands and feet to accomplish these procedures. This could average over 100 times a day.
- The driver must also climb a ladder on the side of the tanker/trailer approximately 15 feet high. This ladder is used to access the hatch to prepare the tanker/trailer for loading and to check the level of product in the tanker/trailer.
- Drivers must wash and clean their trucks with brushes and a hose. This requires a fair amount of climbing on the truck.
High School Diploma or equivalent- Valid State-Issued Driver’s License, Class A
- DOT Medical Card
