Description:
The Operations Supervisor is accountable for leading, directing, and managing drivers’ performance to ensure consistent high levels of service quality and conducting transportation in a safe manner while providing maximum customer satisfaction, profitability, and cost-effective operations. The Operations Supervisor should maintain compliance with company policies and procedures, D.O.T. (FMCSA) rules and regulations, and other regulatory guidelines.
General Descriptions of Duties:
- Supervise drivers’ daily functions
- Maintain compliance with relevant regulatory laws and company policies, including but not limited to DOT hours of service, FMCSA truck maintenance, electronic logs, company policies on computers, handheld devices, preventive maintenance, PPE, and all other policies.
- Create a proactive safety focused culture through training, coaching and policy enforcement.
- Assist with conducting annual performance reviews for all drivers
- Demonstrate results in improving performance through leadership and coaching
- Familiarize and follow policies and procedures set forth by GM and corporate officials.
- Report all complaints, incidents or accidents to Operations Manager, General Manager and/or safety immediately as needed.
- Review necessary daily reports available to management to help ensure compliance and safety including but not limited to; driver hours of service, Drive Cam reports and events and others.
- Assist in employee review process with OM, provide discipline as needed in absence of OM up to and including suspension.
- Evaluate and document new driver progress, evaluate strengths and weaknesses and review with employee, report progress to OM and GM. Collect documentation of new hire training throughout training period and forward documents to OM for filing
- Investigate employee issues and attempt to resolve them. If unable to resolve issues, meet with OM and the employee.
- Fill in for drivers as needed
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Efficient & effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines in the transportation industry.
- Work with a varied schedule to accommodate early, late or weekend deliveries.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Computer skills and experience required.
- Valid Class A CDL, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- High energy and motivation.
- Pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Pass background check
- Maintain certification as a Smith System trainer, and other certifications as deemed necessary by the Company.
