Help Desk Specialist / System Administrator

Position Description
ERT is seeking a full-time Help Desk Specialist / System Administrator to join our technical support team supporting the Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (SARSAT) system operations and maintenance contract. Managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the SARSAT program processes and distributes data to detect and locate ships, aircraft, and individuals in distress. The selected candidate will provide hardware and software support to end users, developers, and IT security personnel in a mission-critical environment. to join a team supporting 

Hardware Support:

• Workstation and server configuration and deployment
• Workstation, server, and IT equipment repair
• Inventory management and asset tracking of all IT equipment
• Testing workstations and servers for compatibility and conflict issues

Networking:

• Experience with networking equipment and cabling
• Ability to effectively troubleshoot physical connectivity issues

Software and OS Support:

• Support developers and analysts with custom software application development and usage
• Keep updated workstation images for all individual workstations; keep separate image for each model
• Operating Systems support and maintenance -Windows 10/11,Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, and Ubuntu
• Installing and configuring applications and operating systems to organizational standards and baseline configurations
• Keep all servers and workstations up to date with latest patches and updates; maintain the BigFix management/deployment server and systems connecting to the server
• Scan systems using vulnerability scanners to identify and remediate security flaws
• Manage VMware environment including creating VMs, managing VMs, etc.

Beta Testing and Research:

• Install and test new configurations including new Operating Systems, hardware equipment, software, etc.
• Assist developers with testing custom software on servers and workstations
   

Hardware CM and Inventory:

• Work with Government Property Custodian to ensure the inventory of new, moved, and surplus hardware remains current

Security:

• Work with the IT security lead to ensure all relevant policy and procedures are followed.
   

Required Skills

• 8 years of experience in systems administration. MS Office, MS network environment, VMware environment, software installation, IT security practices, PC troubleshooting, backup and recovery procedures. 
• Experience with virtualization is a plus.
• U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a Common Access Card to enter the government facility.

Education
BA/BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, related field, or equivalent experience.

Location:
Work is located at Suitland Federal Center, Suitland, MD with limited telework available.  

Salary
The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $174,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT uses several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the position's scope and expected duties, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
