Position Description
ERT is seeking an experienced Senior Ground System Engineer to support a contract at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Suitland, MD.
The Senior Ground System Engineer will provide subject matter expertise and support in the areas of ground system management, operations, maintenance, integration, test, and checkout for the GOES-R and SWFO missions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert on the GOES-R and SWFO ground systems, providing essential knowledge in infrastructure, mission management, data operations, and other ground-system related subjects.
- Support the resolution of ground system anomalies, coordinating with stakeholders from NOAA, NASA, the OMS contract, and other contractors to identify issues, guide troubleshooting efforts, and develop recovery plans to restore system operations.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of Integration, Test, and Checkout activities for both missions. Work directly with the integration, test, and checkout leads to ensure smooth and efficient execution of activities while not compromising mission operations.
- Develop strategies and contribute to documentation (processes, standard operating procedures, etc.) to address technical challenges, meet the government customer’s needs, and ensure efficient and effective communication.
- Collaborate with other technical experts and stakeholders within the federal government team and other contracting teams to resolve issues, deconflict competing priorities, foster collaboration, share knowledge, and document processes.
- Communicate regularly with the PM to provide technical expertise and recommendations to enable planning, management, and appropriate tasking.
Required Skills
- 4 years of experience in satellite ground systems architecture engineering or operations, or similarly relevant fields, preferably with the federal government or supporting federal or government contracts. Experience working with NOAA and/or GEO systems highly desirable.
- Proven experience in satellite ground system operations and maintenance within a 24x7 operational system environment.
- Experience in deployment to operations in a continuous availability environment.
- Ability to understand and make decisions related to maintenance, monitoring, helpdesk, reporting, responding to anomalies, technology transitions to operations, security controls assessments, security scans, security vulnerability management, break/fix management and other system technology improvements as necessary.
- Demonstrated history of understanding customer needs and generating solutions.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with proven experience in communicating effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card) and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Desired
- Experience with the GOES-R and/or SWFO missions
- Existing knowledge of NOAA and/or NASA standard operating procedures and policies
Education
Bachelor’s degree in applicable engineering, computer science, information technology, or similar field.
Location
Work is to be completed on-site at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD. Position may be eligible for flexible work arrangement.
Salary
The salary range for this role is $83,000 - $239,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including the location, scope, and associated responsibilities of the specific position, as well as a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
