Primary Purpose
The Network Engineer is responsible for providing advanced-level network operations support, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network hardware and software. This role involves working closely with both senior engineers and network administrators to ensure the stability, reliability, and security of the ESC Region 11 network infrastructure for internal operations as well as FIBERl 1 customer network needs.

Education/Certification
Bachelor's degree or 6 years of networking experience preferred
Current CCNA or applicable networking certifications preferred

Familiarity with open-source network tools (Ansible, Graylog, Security Onion)
Familiarity with Linux operating systems and terminal operations
Experience
3-4 years preferred experience working with networking and telecommunications equipment performing the duties of configuring, monitoring, and managing LAN/W AN/WLAN infrastructure including management of routers, switches, and associated equipment.
Experience in supporting network operations, including the configuration and troubleshooting of network devices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist senior network engineers with installation, upgrades, configuration and troubleshooting of all network hardware.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure network availability and reliability.
Maintain network security using available network tools and equipment such as firewall, IDS, DNS filtering, and DDoS mitigation.
Assist with network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
Assist with the implementation of after-hours maintenance and respond to incidents in alignment with the FIBER! I Service Level Agreement
Investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test, and implement solutions.
Open, monitor, and update trouble cases with the ISP and follow up to ensure that remediations are in place for network and security issues.
Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
Identify utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and perfonnance expectations.
Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
Document network problems and resolutions for future reference. Analyze system logs and identify potential issues with network systems.
Assist other technology departments in planning and decision making for future technology implementations.
Participate in team and department meetings and knowledge transfer sessions. Occasionally present sessions covering networking/security topics to internal and external clients.
Work in collaboration with the Sr. Systems Engineer and the Sr. Security Engineer on best practice implementations.

Annual performance evaluation will be performed in accordance with the adopted policies of the Education Service Center Region 11. Employment in this position is contingent upon performance, need, and funding.
