Reports To: Building Principal/Special Education Supervisor
Work Schedule: 6.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday
This is a substitute position that will be from January 16, 2025 through May 23, 2025.
Location: Shiloh Middle School, Parma City School District

Major Functions:
The full time classified, 1:1 educational aide/para-professional assignment to provide support
and supervision for a self-contained specialized middle school aged student identified with
Multiple Disabilities which may include moderate to severe communication, social, medical,
emotional needs, challenges and delays.
Experience serving school-aged students with significant medical and communication needs
strongly considered or extensive knowledge and skill set needed in a self contained, alternate
academic classroom setting in a separate self-contained classroom setting.
Working collaboratively with multiple staff members on student’s team and family as needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist with mobility throughout the school building
- Facilitate communication (AAC device and other techniques) during unstructured times of student’s day.
- Facilitate communication (AAC device and other techniques) during instruction in small group or general education classes
- Attend Encore classes with student and facilitate participation.
- Collaborate with intervention specialist to adapt curriculum needs in small group or general education classes (curriculum modification for participation).
- Assist with student transfers.
- Assist with student feeding.
- Assist with student sensory regulation.
- Provide hand over hand assistance for student during all classes, including lunch.
- Facilitate instruction in the home when student is absent.
- Participate in specialized training prior to the start of the school year regarding student’s communication needs.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required. College experience preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 48 semester hours of post-secondary education or have passed the PRAXIS PARAPRO exam.
- One or two years related experience working with students with significant disabilities ispreferred.
- Must pass the written test or meet the educational requirements of the "No Child Left Behind Act."
- Ability to meet the requirements to apply for and receive an Educational Aide Permit with the Ohio Department of Education.
- Ability to work effectively with students, this may include students who display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate sound organizational and problem solving skills.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
- Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students.
- Knowledge and ability to apply behavior management techniques in enforcing school discipline in an appropriate context.
- Must possess the physical strength and ability required to lift, assist, restrain, or pursue handicapped students.
- Clerical skills; including knowledge of various devices, including iPads and computers.
- Previous experience working with computers preferred.
- Maintains a good attendance record and is punctual.
