What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Maintenance Technician position at Escambia County Sheriff's Office?
This class performs specialized maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet of County vehicles and other light and heavy-duty equipment. This class will play a key role in maintaining our fleet to ensure optimal performance and safety standards and play a key role in minimizing downtime and enhancing the efficiency of our vehicle fleet and equipment operations.
This class is considered essential personnel and employees assigned to this class as designated by management MUST be available during emergencies as their work directly supports efforts to maintain and to help support our public safety. Generally, positions in this classification are typically scheduled to work Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, unless they are activated as needed in an emergency situation.
Escambia County Sheriff's Office Fleet Technician work is performed in a temperature controlled environment and employee work takes place inside of our garage facilities out of the elements. Heating and cooling are provided for our technician's to conduct their work to ensure a comfortable environment. All employees of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office regardless of classification are expected to be loyal, work in a safe manner, use common sense, and complete their work efficiently and correctly.May serve as a lead to lower level staff, which includes: prioritizing and assigning work; training staff on work methods and procedures; and/or, performing other related activities.
Evaluates, detects, and diagnoses major and/or minor mechanical problems on vehicles and/or equipment; implements required repairs.
Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment.
Prepares and submits work orders.
Measures, designs, and fabricates structures for use in/on vehicles and/or equipment; may build/rebuild transmissions for various makes and models of vehicles; and may deliver fuel.
Wires and installs emergency responder equipment in vehicles.
Responds to emergency calls for service; may transport equipment and vehicles.
Requires adaptability to changing priorities and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
Requires ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment competently
Performs basic computer skills for maintaining digital records and accessing repair manuals and interpreting diagnostic repair specifications
Performs troubleshooting on electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other vehicle and equipment components
Participates as a member of the disaster response team.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.High School Diploma (G.E.D.) AND one (1) year of experience in a fleet maintenance position working with automotive repair, welding, or fabricating; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
License and Certification Requirements:
Valid driver's license.

This position is in an AC/Heated climate controlled work environment out of the elements.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
