General Description:

 

  • Serves as support to students within a classroom (s) or in a small group setting to ensure student academic needs are met as per core curricular expectations and provide intervention to those showing need on assessments.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  1. Certified Teacher
  2. Eligible for substitute teaching as determined by the State of Michigan
    1. Complete at least two years of study in an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
    2. Obtain an Associate’s Degree (or higher); or
    3. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
  3. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform educational support tasks as directed.
  4. Be able to demonstrate appropriate communication skills, both oral and written.
  5. Must be prompt, courteous and have a record of good attendance in any employment
  6. Working knowledge of record keeping procedures and good organizational skills
  7. Have a valid Michigan driver’s license

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Work with classroom and intervention teachers to provide support / intervention to students performing below grade level.
  2. Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding student information.
  3. Implement strategies as directed to help students make academic progress
  4. Effectively communicate and cooperate with all staff in carrying out duties.
  5. Keep educational progress up to date as directed.
  6. Implement interventions designed to help students in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and other subjects as directed by the teacher.

 

 

Other Duties / Responsibilities / Working Conditions:

 

  1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  2. May be called upon to sub for classroom teachers when there is a shortage; all substitute teacher time will be hours listed under the general fund category
  3. Conducts other duties related to the aide’s duties assigned by the building principal
  4. Proper grooming and attire have a positive impact on the school’s image.  This position involves direct service on a daily basis and the employee should maintain work attire and appearance that reflects an efficient, orderly and professionally operated organization.
  5. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  6. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
  7. Occasional interaction among unruly children
  8. Other tasks as determined by the school principal or his/her designee
