Job Title: Immigrant Rights Organizer
Location: Iowa City, Iowa
Reports to: Executive Director
Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time
Compensation: $39k-$47k
Job Description
The Immigrant Rights Organizer will play a key role in building grassroots power within immigrant communities to advocate for justice, dignity, and systemic change. This position will engage directly with immigrant workers and families, lead campaigns to stop deportations and fight anti-immigrant policies, and develop community leaders to take action and shape solutions.
The ideal candidate is deeply committed to immigrant justice, highly relational, and experienced in grassroots organizing.
Key Responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships with immigrant individuals, families, and workers through outreach, 1-on-1 conversations, and home visits
- Coordinate and support community-led campaigns on issues like deportation defense, workplace rights, access to legal support, and local/state policy
- Organize regular community meetings, trainings, and leadership development opportunities
- Mobilize members and allies for public actions, rallies, legislative visits, and rapid response efforts
- Maintain accurate contact records and contribute to internal tracking and evaluation systems
- Collaborate with legal and service teams to ensure holistic support for impacted families
- Represent the organization in coalition spaces and public forums as needed
- Assist with communications and storytelling efforts that lift up the voices and leadership of directly impacted individuals
Qualifications & Requirements
- Deep commitment to immigrant rights and grassroots, community-led organizing
- Experience with base-building, issue campaigns, and/or rapid response organizing
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills—able to build relationships across lines of difference
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed, and travel locally/regionally
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-moving environments
- Familiarity with issues facing immigrant and refugee communities (e.g., deportation, workplace abuse, access to services)
- Basic digital skills (Google Workspace, messaging platforms, data entry tools)
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must have a valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation
