Position Summary :
A Mentor is responsible for the supervision of students, promoting and actively participating in all after school activities, providing a safe and fun learning environment, and serving as a positive role model for students. Mentors work up to 26 consecutive weeks from mid-October to early-May.
Program Dates, Times & Locations :
October 2024 - May 2025
- The Program operates at Mastery Charter Smedley Elementary School located in the Frankford section of Philadelphia three days per week.
- Mentor hours are 3 : 00-5 : 15 pm. Priority to candidates available all 3 days.
- Mentors are required to commit to at least two afternoons per week.
Education Requirements :
Minimum of eighteen (18) years of ageMust be a High School graduate pursing a college degreeEnrolled in or successfully completed an education-related or child-related major / course of study preferredDream Camp Information

Essential Job Responsibilities :
Supervise a group of 5 students focusing on behavior and group management, safety, security, and personal / skill developmentWork effectively with co-mentors and collaborate on daily responsibilitiesFacilitate and actively participate in all student activities including but not limited to : homework, tutoring, academic skills development, character building, arts enrichment, physical fitness classes, and group projectsComplete assigned paperworkServe as a positive role model to campersExhibit ESF Core Values at all times and adhere to all company policiesHave funOther responsibilities as assignedExperience Requirements :
Prior experience working with children in a group setting, examples include but are not limited to; teaching, coaching, babysitting, academic / athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, etc.Previous experience working with urban youthPosition Competencies for Success :

Reports directly to and takes direction from the Program Director and Program Coordinator.Essential Job Functions - Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Push / pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campusWork upright and mobile for two (2) to four (4) hours per dayRespond to emergency situations which may include running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertionPossess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions - responsibilities listed aboveThis job description is subject to change at any time.
