Requires five years of related experience. High School Diploma or GED and the equivalent of one year of college or specialized vocational training in automotive mechanics or a closely related field. Must have a valid state commercial driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.
Knowledge Of
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to in order to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force regularly. The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.

- Perform diagnostics and make necessary repairs on vehicles and equipment, such as removing and repairing engines, transmissions, or differentials; repairing brake systems; or replacing or repairing air conditioning and heating units.
- Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, such as changing oil and filter, spark plugs, or brake pads, or rotating tires.
- Respond to emergency calls for roadside assistance for disabled vehicles.
- Install, check, and repair electrical components.
- Fabricate and replace hydraulic hoses; perform welding and burning.
- Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes and increase the size of metal parts using welding equipment.
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scraper, power chipper, portable grinder or arc-cutting equipment.
- Test-drive vehicle to establish problem areas and ensure proper functioning of vehicles upon completion of maintenance or repairs.
- Fill out work orders on completed repair or maintenance tasks, including work performed, time required to complete tasks, and parts used.
- Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of the work area and shop equipment.
