The primary role of this position is to perform skilled work related to the installation, inspection, testing, and repair or replacement of water meters. This includes conducting surveys of new and existing customer facilities serviced by ESG Engineering, an Inframark company, to determine the appropriate type of water meter required. The position operates under general supervision and follows established procedures.
Schedule
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to in order to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion, including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis. The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.

Schedule
- Monday to Thursday-10 hr days
- Overnight travel required
- Locate and read residential/commercial utility meters on assigned routes within designated timeframes; drive utility truck to conduct meter-reading activities.
- Replace water meters based on provided work orders and verify all numbers match on house, meter, MXU, and work orders.
- Respond to service calls, customer inquiries, and complaints.
- Program new meters when installed, and reprogram existing meters as needed.
- Service, repair, install, remove, and/or replace meters and associated equipment.
- Test meters for proper operation and accurate readings; check water pressure; report problems or faulty equipment to supervisor.
- Connect, disconnect, or reconnect utility service as appropriate.
- Assist in performing customer service functions as needed; inform supervisor of any customer service issues immediately.
- Perform general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles and equipment in operable condition.
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving meter reading, general maintenance work, customer service, or vehicle operation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge required.
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods and enjoy working outdoors.
- Work outdoors through rough terrain and travel in inclement weather.
