Job Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer will work closely with other engineers, project managers, and ESI’s O&M teams in support of the company’s ongoing biogas utilization projects. The position requires implementing sound engineering principles to ensure project designs are safe and at the industry’s cutting edge. An ability to work independently, self-motivate, and communicate effectively with team members is of the utmost importance to this position. ESI values both continuous improvement and feedback from its employees. Consequently, the electrical engineer is expected to provide feedback to department leadership on ways that processes and designs may be optimized.
This position may be based in Central Oregon or Denver, Colorado.
Reports To
The Senior Electrical Engineer will report to the Lead Electrical Engineer.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop engineering drawings for permitting, estimating, and construction.
- Design and prepare electrical one-lines, load calculations, equipment layout, grounding, lighting, cable schedule, and conduit plans.
- Create and review short circuit, protective coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Coordinate electrical designs with utilities, vendors, and suppliers.
- Develop electrical protection systems, including OCPD and protective power relay settings.
- Supervise the commissioning and start-up of electrical systems.
- Coordinate designs with the other disciplines and provide feedback.
- Participate in HAZOP and design review studies.
- Support the review and response to contractor RFIs.
- Support ESI’s Operations with safety systems, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Interact with other engineering disciplines, designers, and departments throughout the company.
- Develop working knowledge of ISA, NFPA, UL, safety codes, fire codes, and other industry standards.
- Prepare specifications and technical reports.
- Seek ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness in all work.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- This is a senior level position requiring 8 years of electrical engineering experience in electrical power design within some of or all the following industries: Renewable Energy; Gas Processing; Chemical; Power; Waste Management; Environmental Air Quality Control Systems.
- Professional Engineer’s license or ability to obtain license within 12 months of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
- Proficiency in the National Electric Codes and electrical standards.
- Proficiency in performing short circuit current, grounding, and coordination studies.
- Setup, program and oversee testing of new and installed electrical equipment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in SKM Power Tools.
- Background in the design or operation of generator facilities.
- Experience in medium voltage design.
- NETA Testing.
- Proficiency with Schweitzer Electrical Laboratories, Basler, or GE protection products and software.
