What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project/Staff Accountant position at ESP Associates?
The Project/Staff Accountant is a new and exciting role within the growing ESP enterprise providing exposure to both project and corporate accounting. The position will work with members of the Finance & Accounting group and will perform a variety of duties ranging from revenue recognition, monthly billing, and project reporting to recording financial transactions, account reconciliation, financial statement reporting, budgeting, compliance, and other accounting and administrative duties. The ideal candidate must work well in a project-based environment interacting with operations and finance staff, demonstrate a full understanding of GAAP principles, and have knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to accounting, payroll, and benefits.
Compensation:
- Salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000 per year; 26 pay periods.
Responsibilities:
- Minimum 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting
- Facilitating accurate revenue recognition and project controls for a business unit
- Assisting project managers, department managers, business unit executives and other members of the enterprise with project budgeting
- Drafting monthly invoices, pay summary sheets, and any supporting documentation
- Data entry processing for all contracts, amendments, and change orders in the accounting system, from setting up new clients, to entering scopes and designated resource allocations and ensuring all certificates of insurance are in compliance
- Processing accounts receivable, from recording payments from clients, drafting deposits, drafting deposit statements, and check detail statements
- Providing reports as needed to appropriate members of the project team and firm management
- Reviewing weekly timesheets for accuracy and compliance
- Reviewing and processing expense reports and reimbursements
- Processing and maintaining biweekly payroll and PTO accruals
- Performing account analysis and reconciliation
- Preparing journal entries and assisting with month-end close process
- Maintaining and managing workbooks and schedules (such as prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, loans, leases, and vehicles)
- Updating bank activity spreadsheets and schedules
- Preparing for external audits and requests
- Preparing miscellaneous filings for government agencies
- Developing in-depth knowledge of accounting system and payroll platforms
- Assisting with the implementation and improvement of internal systems and procedures
- Assisting with vendor coordination as needed to ensure proper record keeping and 1099 drafting
Qualifications:
- Considerable knowledge of accounting experience related to business administration
- Experience in accounting and payroll processing
- Strong aptitude for arithmetic and reporting accuracy
- Ability to be detail oriented with problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow and maintain accounting procedures
- Proficiency with data entry, organization, and record-keeping
- Ability to use data analysis techniques and understand research methods
- General knowledge of contract insurance and certificates of liability insurance, preferred
- Considerable knowledge of GAAP and other accounting and finance regulations
- Verifiable proficiency in Microsoft Office suite especially with Excel
- Familiarity with Unanet ERP for AE or other A/E industry ERP systems, preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality for clients and for the company
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, clients, and the public
- Willingness to obtain a Colorado Notary Public license.
- Candidate must pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy.
