ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support and ensure safety, health, and regulatory compliance with all company operations. This role involves managing risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, conducting field inspections, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and supporting safety training programs.
Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Safety Coordinator will play a key role in promoting a culture of safety and compliance within the organization and with external clients.
Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that ESP Associates, Inc. comply with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
- New Hire Onboarding and Training: Facilitate safety and compliance onboarding for new hires, ensuring they understand company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. Conduct employee onboarding safety training and ensure continuous education for all personnel.
- Training & Development: Design and deliver safety training programs, including OSHA 10/30-hour, confined space, and CPR/First Aid certifications. Provide hands-on instruction in confined space safety, CPR/First Aid, and workplace hazard recognition. Develop, conduct, and document safety training for all employees as required by OSHA guidelines and client-specific requirements.
- Risk Management: Perform regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions, as necessary.
- Incident Investigation: Support the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, or near misses using root cause analysis methodologies such as 5-Why or Fishbone Diagrams. Recommend and implement corrective measures.
- Field Support Inspections: Conduct regular field inspections at job sites or operational areas to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards. Provide on-the-ground support, collaborate with supervisors, and project managers, and assist in developing corrective actions as needed.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, field assessments, compliance audits, and training activities.
- Emergency Preparedness: Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans, ensuring that employees are well-prepared for various scenarios.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance safety programs and compliance initiatives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments (HR, Operations, Business Units) to ensure safety and compliance strategies align with company objectives.
Qualifications:
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in workplace safety program coordination and oversight, including policy creation, field support, training curriculum development and delivery, risk assessment, and general compliance recommendations.
- Experience in safety training curriculum development and facilitation for small and large groups in virtual, online, and in-person environments.
- Experience evaluating the effectiveness of workplace safety programs, making recommendations, and implementing corrective actions based on industry standards and best practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in various positions, including walking, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods, reaching overhead, and carrying equipment.
- Ability to travel to company facilities and job sites, including overnight travel, sometimes with short notice.
- Ability to develop open communication with staff at all levels of the organization to foster a positive safety culture while taking a proactive approach to supporting the safety program.
- Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background screen, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with company’s driving (MVR) policy.
Preferred Certifications & Credentials:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field.
- Certification in occupational health and safety such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar.
- OSHA 500 (Trainer Certification for Construction) or OSHA 510.
- CPR/First Aid instructor certification.
- CIT (Certified Instructional Trainer).
- Confined Space Safety Instructor certification.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, Railroad and DOT standards, as well as industry-specific safety guidelines.
- Proficiency with safety management software, including KPA, Avetta, and ISNetworld platforms.
