Hours: 8 hrs/day; 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM |
General Job Function:
The Operations & Maintenance intern will gain hands-on experience working alongside the district’s maintenance team, transportation team, and custodial teams to support the upkeep and functionality of school facilities. Interns will assist with general maintenance tasks, cleaning, minor repairs, and fleet vehicle upkeep while learning essential skills related to facility operations, workplace safety, and equipment handling.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, students will:
- Understand basic building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
- Learn proper custodial procedures for maintaining a clean and safe school environment.
- Gain experience in facility inspections, equipment handling, and repair techniques.
- Develop teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace communication skills.
- Learn about safety protocols, hazardous material handling, and emergency response procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in general school maintenance, including painting, minor repairs, and landscaping.
- Support custodial teams with daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing.
- Help with the setup and breakdown of school facilities for events and activities.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, including checking HVAC filters and replacing light bulbs.
- Assist with inventory management and organization of maintenance supplies.
- Learn and follow district safety guidelines and proper use of maintenance tools and cleaning chemicals.
- Shadow experienced staff to understand district-wide facility operations and maintenance procedures.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
- Interest in Trades, Facilities Maintenance, or Construction.
- Willingness to perform physical tasks and work in various environments. ? Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
