Crisis Advocate

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Compensation: $18-$21 per hour

Schedule: Two shifts available: Swing (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) or Overnight (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

Status: Full-Time or Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: VP of Client Services & Crisis Advocate Supervisor

Esperanza Shelter is seeking a compassionate Crisis Advocate to provide trauma-informed case management and advocacy services for survivors of relationship violence, stalking, sexual assault, and human trafficking. As our Crisis Advocate, you'll be instrumental in supporting residents in our emergency shelter and housing programs while ensuring their safety and well-being.

For over 40 years, we've provided the Santa Fe community with secure shelter, counseling, advocacy, and comprehensive services for those affected by domestic violence. Through prevention education, therapy, life skills training, and group support, we create an environment where survivors can rebuild their lives with dignity and compassion. The ideal candidate is a strong and effective communicator who is proficient with technology, demonstrates patience in challenging situations, and is self-motivated to serve our community.

Job Summary

  • Provides trauma-informed case management and advocacy services
  • Manages crisis calls and determines program eligibility
  • Conducts safety planning and ongoing interventions
  • Maintains shelter security and resident support
  • Coordinates resident move-in/move-out assistance

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages resident caseload providing advocacy and goal-related support
  • Communicates and enforces shelter guidelines
  • Conducts regular safety checks and monitors facility security
  • Maintains facility cleanliness and organization
  • Documents all services from intake to discharge
  • Participates in required meetings and trainings

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains accurate resident files and statistics
  • Practices appropriate self-care strategies
  • Coordinates with shelter staff and leadership
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures

Qualifications Required

  • Associate's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field
  • One year experience in related field
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English, Tewa/English, or ASL/English)
  • Two to three years' experience
  • Domestic violence advocacy experience
  • Experience with diverse populations
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • On-site position at Santa Fe location
  • Regular standing, sitting, and computer use
  • Light to moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to adjust to various noise levels and temperatures
  • May require bending, crawling, climbing for facility maintenance

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
