Special Education Paraprofessional
An ESS paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The paraprofessional job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.
Paraprofessionals are also known as school aides, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and personal care assistants.
Responsibilities
- Under close supervision and based on specific guidelines and lesson plans developed by the teacher, provides direct instruction to students.
- Assists teacher in maintaining an effective, comprehensive educational program to meet the needs of students.
- Assists students with instructional needs individually and in small groups and tutors students in core subject areas.
- Assists students with individual needs, including physical needs, daily living/functional training activities.
- Obtains and/or prepares instructional materials/aids for students. Maintains order and cleanliness in an educational environment.
- Observes and completes documentation of student’s progress.
- Follows student safety plans, behavioral intervention plans, and takes data as directed. Attends seminars, conferences, required job-related training and other staff development training programs.
- May serve on committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 60 College Credits or GA GACE Paraprofessional License
- Valid background check
- A minimum of three professional references from current and/or former employers
- Ability to relate well to students, parents, and co-workers Previous comparable work experience preferred.
