Your Mission

Essence Preparatory Public School, a growing K-8 public charter school in San Antonio, Texas, invites passionate and revolutionary educators to apply to the Classroom Teacher position.


Essence Prep aims to redefine what’s possible in public education and create space for game-changing educators. We have a shared belief that all students deserve an excellent education, and together we focus on supporting outstanding teachers and school leaders to achieve that goal. We project to serve over 840 students within the next five years. We are looking for emotionally intelligent, committed, and culturally competent Classroom Teachers who are relentless in educating and affirming our students. Essence Prep exists to provide the students of San Antonio, Texas, with an educational experience that equips them with the knowledge of self, tools, and confidence needed to thrive in school and beyond. Through rigorous academics, intentional character development, and cultivating student knowledge of self, our mission prepares all kindergarten through eighth-grade students for high school, college, and beyond as leading agents of change in their communities.


As a Teacher at Essence Prep, you have the opportunity to be a part of designing a school environment that honors and affirms students’ identities while expanding their knowledge of and experience with the world around them. You will ensure every scholar receives the academic foundation and life skills necessary for their success. You will ensure that scholars experience a challenging, affirming, and supportive educational environment. You will foster a classroom culture that pushes deeper conceptual learning and restorative practices and demonstrates our core mindsets daily. With support and development, a team of like-minded educators, and the use of data-informed instruction and culturally responsive practices with the guidance and support of your instructional coach, you will be prepared to shape the lives of your future scholars positively.


Your Approach

  2. You are resolute that every child will encounter success in every grade and subject. Lessons are crafted with careful consideration of each individual student
  3. Achieving true equity requires you to look at all aspects, from both a larger systems perspective and an individual student perspective
  4. You put systems in place to ensure that every child has an equal chance for success
  5. Create and sustain an affirming classroom environment with a focus on deeper-conceptual learning
  6. Intellectually prepare to execute lesson plans and differentiate daily to ensure 100% of students reach and exceed their year-long academic goals
  7. Use data-informed practices to drive instruction and ensure all academic gaps are closed for all students
  8. Support of the professional habit growth of all scholars, including organization, time management, and communication
  9. Execution of all classroom systems supporting Essence Prep VITALS, RISE core values, and Restorative Practices Behavior Response System
  10. Provide consistent and clear high academic and classroom community expectations through Responsive Classroom Practices
  11. Collaboration and co-planning with grade team teachers and special  education teachers to plan lessons, asses students, and interpret academic data
  12. Participation and engagement in weekly individual coaching meetings, weekly Professional Development, Summer Orientation, and Monthly Staff Book-Clubs
  13. Assist with operational support of various school systems to ensure the efficiency of scholar arrival, dismissal, transitions, and other needs
  14. Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
  15. Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
  16. Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update the grade book weekly
  17. Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work-related tasks.
  18. Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns with campus-wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom
  19. Help shape and develop a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
  20. Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify.
  21. Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs
  22. Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school-wide meetings and functions
  23. Engage in summer and year-long district, school, and personal learning and development
  24. Minimum of 40 hours spent at school per week to include evening and weekend hours as needed or assigned
  25. Volunteer for student recruitment events
  26. Other duties as assigned


You have

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  2. A Texas Teaching Certificate); preferred
  3. Ability to pass a criminal background check
  4. Experience working with school-aged children

Salary : $62,000 - $68,000
