Job Summary
Open to all licensed attorneys and recent graduates awaiting July 2025 bar results.
Small, rural jurisdiction stressing a collaborative atmosphere and emphasizing a team approach to major prosecutions. Located approximately one (1) hour from Richmond and Fredericksburg, along the Rappahannock River.
Duties would include - Conduct and assist with the prosecution of a wide range of offenses, including misdemeanors and felonies, in all levels of court (each court only meets one day each week most weeks, with two days each week devoted to office work). Meet with and assist members of law enforcement and the public, as needed. Perform and assist with legal research, preparing motions and briefs, assisting the Elected Commonwealth’s Attorney as requested, prosecuting offenses in General District and J&DR courts, assisting with felony prosecutions in Circuit Court, review bodycam video, along with any other tasks that may be necessary regarding the prosecution of matters within the jurisdiction.
Must maintain a professional demeanor, be punctual, and be able to take the initiative on assigned cases and tasks while working under the supervision of the Elected Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar association.
- Strong knowledge of criminal law and trial experience is preferred, but not required.
- Proficiency in legal drafting and research methodologies.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Experience with litigation is a plus.
