Essex North Shore is seeking a Multilingual Learning Teacher to support students in both academic and Career, Technical and Agricultural programs. Oral and written fluency in Spanish or Portuguese preferred.

MULTILINGUAL LEARNING TEACHER
REPORTS TO: Humanities Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students in acquiring English as a Second Language.
- Work with academic and Career Technical and Agricultural Education teachers to develop strategies to aid in improved literacy for all students.
- Gather and analyze data to track student progress.
- Administer a language screener for bilingual students for whom a language barrier is impeding their academic success.
- Model appropriate English communication for the purpose of developing students’ ability to communicate effectively in the English language.
- Push into the academic and program classrooms to support teachers in delivering Sheltered Content Instruction.
- Develop and implement a rigorous curriculum that helps MLL students to build academic and content-area language and vocabulary.
- Collaborate with teachers in integrating the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards into content-area instruction and in identifying ways in which students at all levels of English development can be supported in the content areas.
- Administer screenings for students to determine placement and the ACCESS assessment to measure English Language Development.
- Works with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner and maintains appropriate confidential records.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Accepts additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Humanities Coordinator or their designee.
