What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer 9-12 Individual Assistant position at Essex Westford School District?
The Essex Westford School District has two openings for seasonal Individual Assistants at Essex High School (grades 9-12). During the summer (July 7 to August 7) this position will assist and supervise assigned students who have intensive special needs instructionally, behaviorally, and physically in a classroom and community setting, implementing the student’s individual educational program; assist assigned students with self-care, and with communicating with others using alternative or augmentative communication systems. This position will play a supportive role in assessing the progress and needs of the assigned student and participate in developing and modifying individualized instructional materials and programs.
Starting pay for this position is $25/hour.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Adapt general classroom material/methods as appropriate to meet the needs of students, in consultation with classroom and/or special education teacher.
- Implement the program developed by the IEP team.
- Facilitate social and inclusive interactions among the student and his/her peers in the regular student environment.
- Participate in various community activities and field trips with students.
- Assist in the administration of informal assessments to determine student progress and/or level of achievement.
- Assist in developing, compiling, and organizing instructional materials, under the direction of the classroom teacher or special educator.
- Play a supportive role in evaluating student progress, problems, and needs. Participate in developing formats for student instruction and teaching strategies, and other activities as assigned. Conduct task analysis and data collection on student performance.
