GENERAL FUNCTION
Lead role in the kilogram-scale manufacture of specialty chemicals including dyes and dye intermediates for use by both internal and external customers.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Specialty chemical production on kilogram scales
- Chemical apparatus set-up, reactor loading (solvents, raw materials) and unloading
- Chemical process monitoring and control
- Crude product purification (crystallization, chromatography, rotary evaporation, solvent recovery)
- Spectroscopy (ultraviolet, visible, infrared, NMR) and Data Analysis
- Quality control
- Record keeping (Laboratory notebooks, Certificates of Analysis)
- Chemical equipment preventive maintenance and repair (Reactors, Evaporators, Pumps, etc.)
- Reporting (Standard Operating Procedures, Production reports)
- Compliance with safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA) and internal practices
- Regulatory Compliance
- Support both R&D and Manufacturing in safety and environmental compliance
- Support internal and external customers in safety and environmental compliance
- Support corporate ES&H initiatives
