The Estacada School District is seeking up to 2 exceptional candidates to join our River Mill support team as one of our part time Lunch / Recess monitors. Our Lunch Recess Monitors play an important role in a students day as they encourage playground safety and offer adult supervision while our students are releasing their energy!

Hours vary per position up to 4 hours per day 4 days per week; Monday - Thursday and an occasional Friday while school is in session. (Times vary from 9 : 30am - 2 : 30pm)

JOB GOAL :

The job of "Lunch / Recess Monitor" is done for the purpose / s of providing for the safety and welfare of students during non classroom activities; communicating observations and incidents that may impact a student's development or general well being to other school personnel; and providing appropriate emergency care as may be necessary. Position may also be exposed to extreme temperatures when working outside.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Experience Required : Job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education and job experience
  • Skills. Knowledge and / or Abilities required
  • Willingness and capacity to work with students of all abilities
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and desire to learn and apply new skills through professional development, collaboration and working with other dedicated professional educators.
  • Must have a positive, student first, 'can do' attitude.
  • Must have First Aid / CPR Card (or equivalent) or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire date
  • Skills to use English in both written and verbal form, make common sense decisions, administer first aid.
  • Knowledge of playground safety and basic first aid.
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, understand oral and written instructions. Significant physical abilities include stooping, talking / hearing, far visual acuity / depth perception / accommodation.
  • Passage of a fingerprint based criminal history verification required upon offer of employment at new employee expense.
  • Meet the District minimum physical ability / health standards for the position.
  • Successful passage of a physical examination including drug screen at district expense is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

May include but are not limited to, the following :

  • Ability to monitor and supervise students in the lunchroom, on the playground and in other group activities.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators, and staff
  • Administers first aid for the purpose of providing emergency care.
  • Monitors students and maintains order during lunch periods and recesses within a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, classrooms, library, bus stops, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and administration.
  • Administers playground equipment for the purpose of providing equipment necessary for activities.
  • Attends authorized training sessions for the purpose of developing skills or knowledge related to the job assignment.
  • Facilitates games among students for the purpose of providing age appropriate activities.
  • Identify and report students who leave the building without prior authorization
  • Respond to student concerns and assure student safety.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities (e.g. classroom teachers, office staff).

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; stand; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • The employee will lift up to 60 pounds occasionally for brief periods of time. The employee may walk on flat surfaces as well as up and down stairs occasionally.
  • Upon CPI or equivalent training, lunch recess monitors may, engage in running and physical restraint in an attempt to keep students safe.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Climate controlled environment with frequent exposure to outdoor elements, noise levels from moderate to loud and occasional to frequent time periods.

    REPORTS TO : Building Administrator

    SUPERVISES : Such personnel as may be assigned.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

    Up to 175 day position / up to 4 hours per day; Member of the Classified Union. Salary and placement will be in accordance with the current Classified Agreement's salary schedule. - Grade AA

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Directors' policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
