SUMMARY:
The Patient Account Representative represents Patient Financial Services by managing billing questions from patients that inquire by phone, email, or walk-in to our office. Researches the status of the account to be able to clarify to a patient how a claim was processed or identify if a correction is needed. Once a patient is ready to pay, explains the payment options and makes appropriate arrangements for their account.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Research insurance payments and adjustments to explain to a patient how their account was billed. If there is an error, will take action to correct the claim and set up the account to be rebilled.
- Takes patient payments via all possible payment options that include prompt payment discounts, payment plans, a bank loan or setting up an online account.
- Works closely with Financial Counseling and Pre-Access services regarding patient self-pay balances.
- Represents the Billing Office to patients, providing customer service for billing concerns for Hospital and Clinic accounts by walk-in, phone, or email.
- If there is a concern about inaccuracy of charges or clinical services, will work closely with the Quality Department to resolve the patient’s concerns, particularly issues that impact the patient financially.
- Identifies patients that need financial assistance and refers patients to Financial Counseling for walk-in visit or appointment as appropriate.
- Courteously answers telephone calls and promptly returns voice mail messages, routes calls, and takes accurate messages as is appropriate.
- Manages output of patient statements and reviews returned mail to determine if correct address can be found.
- Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness by making recommendations and communicating trends and issues to supervisor.
- Perform in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulatory agency standards.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Healthcare billing experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
- Moderate computer knowledge.
- Microsoft Suite knowledge.
- Must be able to work well in a fast paced, team environment.
PAY DETAILS:
$16.50 - $22.44 per hour
