What are the responsibilities and job description for the Witness Coordinator position at ESTP?
DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will act as the primary support for not only witnesses throughout the criminal justice process, but also the attorneys in preparation and during trial. The Witness Coordinator is responsible for issuing trial subpoenas, coordinating both civilian and law enforcement court appearances, arranging travel when necessary, utilizing an investigator to locate witnesses, notifying the attorneys of any scheduling conflicts or witness issues, updating the victim advocate on trial schedule changes or continuances, reserving necessary tech equipment for evidence presentation, and attending court for trials that may or may not go beyond normal business hours. The candidate may also assist the attorneys in various tasks including (but not limited to) scheduling pre-trial meetings and drafting jury instructions. The position’s requirements and tasks are subject to change to meet the needs of both the office and the attorneys preparing for trial. The ability to accept and embrace change is critical.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from a standard high school or an equivalency diploma.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of clerical procedures, legal terminology, and legal procedures. Advanced knowledge of IJIS, including generating and preparing reports. Advanced knowledge of Word, including document formatting.
Ability to communicate and record information accurately and effectively (in person, telephonically, and in writing). Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to multi-task efficiently, meet time sensitive deadlines, and manage a heavy volume of cases. Ability to accept responsibility and to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities. Ability to assess the needs of victims and witnesses.
Ability to address emotionally upset, and/or demanding individuals with courtesy and respect.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various law enforcement agencies. Ability to work varied hours as needed.
