This position ensures regulatory compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant agencies, while promoting a strong organizational safety culture. Key responsibilities include managing compliance programs, training employees, handling incident reporting, and supervising safety personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA, EPA, and related regulatory requirements.
- Manage OSHA-required programs including hazard communication, respiratory protection, emergency response, and reporting obligations.
- Conduct annual compliance reporting and maintain thorough documentation.
- Safety Program Management
- Lead plant-wide safety initiatives to ensure employee and community safety.
- Regularly update and maintain emergency response and safety plans.
- Supervise the selection, procurement, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Training & Development
- Develop, administer, and track safety training programs (confined space entry, hot work, AED/CPR, first aid, and other required programs).
- Conduct routine training sessions and ensure timely compliance and participation across shifts.
- Incident Investigation & Corrective Action
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses thoroughly and objectively.
- Develop and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Audits & Inspections
- Regularly conduct comprehensive safety inspections and audits.
- Oversee plant medical surveillance programs (annual physicals, drug testing, pre-employment screening).
- Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Supervise safety department personnel, ensuring effective performance management.
- Continually evaluate safety programs and procedures, recommending improvements.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years' safety management experience, preferably in chemical manufacturing or similar industries.
- Expertise in OSHA and EPA regulations and compliance reporting.
- Proven leadership experience supervising employees and managing safety programs.
- Familiarity with hazardous waste management strongly preferred.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- Experience administering and tracking training through Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred.
- Maintain 100% compliance with all OSHA and EPA regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure completion of all required employee safety training within specified deadlines.
- Achieve zero lost-time incidents and minimize reportable incidents.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections per established schedules.
- Demonstrate measurable improvements in safety culture and employee awareness year-over-year.
