The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and administrative support at the mental health and substance abuse facility in Fort Lauderdale, FL, serving both Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) clients. This role involves assisting medical and nursing staff with patient assessments, medication management, and maintaining accurate medical records while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, including vital sign measurements, medical history documentation, and initial screenings.
Administer medications as directed by licensed medical professionals and ensure proper documentation.Perform basic medical procedures such as specimen collection for drug screenings, EKGs, and wound care as needed.Maintain cleanliness and organization of medical equipment and examination rooms.Patient Care & Coordination :Schedule and coordinate patient appointments for medical and psychiatric evaluations.
Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.Support crisis intervention efforts under the direction of medical staff.Assist with monitoring and reporting any changes in patient conditions to the nursing team.Administrative Duties :Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records using the facility’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Ensure all documentation adheres to HIPAA and facility compliance guidelines.Order and stock medical supplies, ensuring proper inventory levels are maintained.Assist in processing insurance paperwork, referrals, and prior authorizations as needed.Compliance & Safety :Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to ensure a secure healthcare environment.
Participate in staff training and continuing education related to mental health and substance abuse care.Ensure compliance with all state and federal healthcare regulations.Qualifications :
Certification : Must have a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from an accredited program.Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.Experience : At least 1-2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or primary care.Skills :Strong communication and patient care skills.
Proficiency in EMR systems and clinical documentation.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced mental health and substance abuse treatment environment.CPR / BLS certification (or willingness to obtain).Work Environment :
Based at the Fort Lauderdale, FL facility with direct patient interaction.May require some flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evening or weekend shifts.
