2025 EWTN News Summer Intern
Location: Washington, DC
Seeking several Summer Interns for an exciting opportunity in our EWTN News division in Washington, DC, in the following areas: Catholic News Agency, National Catholic Register, TV Broadcast, Digital Media, Production, and Engineering/IT. Your contributions will support our News team in producing content for print, TV broadcast, and digital media, as well as technical production. Join us as we bring the News to the world from a Catholic perspective!
WHAT YOU WILL DO (Six Intern Openings):
CNA and NCReg:
- Plan and write articles assigned by Editors in consultation with the editorial team; conduct interviews and follow up with sources in person, by phone/video call, or via email, as needed.
- Assist in preparing articles for publication by suggesting appropriate art/graphics, headlines, and summaries.
- Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency in writing, editing, and organizational skills; knowledge and effective application of AP Style and journalistic integrity; good news judgment to develop, refine, and pitch compelling story ideas relevant to the Catholic Church and current affairs; proficient internet research skills and familiarity with various social media platforms.
Broadcast Writing:
- Contribute to lively, fast-paced newscasts including writing scripts for voiceovers, teases, and discussion segments; assist with producing Rome/Vatican content.
- Assist with basic newsroom and control room functions as needed, such as teleprompter, printing scripts, greeting and escorting guests, preparing rundowns, and script archive maintenance.
- Qualifications: Strong writing skills, preferably in a TV/Newsroom environment; good news judgment to develop, refine, and pitch compelling story ideas relevant to the Catholic Church and current affairs; proficient internet research skills and familiarity with various social media platforms.
Digital Media:
- Work with the Digital and Broadcast teams to coordinate on-air and online news coverage that builds brand awareness and increases audience acquisition.
- Create compelling content for various digital platforms such as websites, Apps, and social media; assist with the management of various social media accounts.
- Qualifications: Effective writing and content creation skills, preferably in a TV/Newsroom environment; good news judgment to develop, refine, and pitch compelling story ideas relevant to the Catholic Church and current affairs; proficient internet research skills and familiarity with various social media platforms.
News Production:
- Work closely with Production staff and Producers on field and in-studio shoots; make technical and mark-up notes for post-production.
- Perform basic newsroom/control room functions as needed, such as teleprompter, CG operation, tape logging, archival video and still photography searches, operation of robotic cameras, and lighting set-up.
- Qualifications: Prior experience with or affinity for technical operations in a TV/Audio/Newsroom setting.
IT/Engineering:
- Provide general support for television broadcast, post-production, IT, and studio operations in DC, in the field, and at standard off-site locations such as The White House and Capitol Hill.
- Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot printers, computer hardware, mobile devices, software installations and updates; provide frontline user support for service requests and status updates.
- Qualifications: Prior experience with or affinity for engineering IP infrastructure or Information Technology in a TV/Audio/Newsroom setting.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- You are working toward an undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcast TV Production, Media Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or other related field.
- Practicing Catholic with an understanding of the Catholic Faith and a genuine commitment to EWTN’s mission.
- Have prior work experience in a professional office environment (prior newsroom experience is strongly preferred).
- Possess a genuine interest in following current Catholic, local, national, and world news; understand current affairs content.
- Able to work a standard full-time schedule of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (M-F) on site in DC for the 10-week program; able to travel locally, as needed, for breaking news and special events.
