Job Description

Job Title : Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Job Specialty : Clinical Laboratory Science

Job Duration : 13 Months

Shift : Monday - Friday, 9 am - 6 pm; Rotational weekend coverage as needed

Guaranteed Hours : 40 Hours / Week

Experience : Minimum 1 Year of Progressive Clinical Experience or 1 Year of Hospital Internship Subsequent to Degree

License : Medical Technologist OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Equivalent Certification by National Credential Agency)

Certifications : ASCP OR AMT OR Equivalent

Must-Have :

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field
Knowledge of all levels of laboratory testing including CLIA defined high complexity testing
Knowledge and ability to utilize a variety of laboratory and other software applications
Expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety

Job Description :

Perform all levels of testing, including CLIA-defined high complexity testing, and provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services independently and competently in a hospital-based laboratory.

Apply advanced technical skills and seasoned judgment to make independent decisions that directly or indirectly affect the quality of patient care.

Writes procedures and ensures regular review, updates, and distribution of procedure manuals.

Establish and maintain a quality control program ensuring acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained throughout the testing process.

Identify and resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

Train new employees and conduct regular training for technologists to ensure adherence to updated procedures.

Assist the laboratory manager with evaluating the competency of testing personnel and process improvement activities.

Implement CAP standards and CLIA regulations within the department and coordinate inventory levels to maintain adequate supply levels.

Provide limited test utilization and interpretation information to medical staff and nursing, and refer advanced clinical questions to the Laboratory Medical Director.

Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring functionality and quality control, and prepare lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.

Participate in continuing education programs and review the work of MLTs and LSTs to ensure accuracy.

Perform patient specimen testing and ensure sample suitability, providing consultation and education to staff about acceptable practices in laboratory medicine.

Establish cooperative working relationships with employees and maintain necessary continuing education, ensuring self and others remain on task.
