Basic Function
Responsible for facilitating communication between Columbus City School’s English Language Learning (ELL) students and families through establishing an ELL family outreach, support, and education program. Must be bilingual in English and Somali with a preferable secondary language of Swahili.
Responsibilities
1. Work with CCS to identify and contact students and families who have disengaged from participation in school. This may include electronic communications, phone calls, and safe door to door visits.
2. Identify and support student and parents initial and ongoing needs related to technology and technology access. This may include assisting in obtaining district- issued chrome books or hotspots as well as using learning platforms and parent portals.
3. Provide training and education to families in school procedures, technology and public health related health and safety measures
4. Create and implement a comprehensive parent information including but not limited to enrollment, school rules, parent rights, parent responsibilities, etc.
5. Assist with establishing and maintaining relationship and communication with youth and parents and staff regarding student’s needs and progress.
6. Provide interpreting services for parents and schools for informal meetings.
7. Provide translating of district and school documents designed to inform parents such as letters, bulletins, announcements, calendars, notices, webpage information, articles, flyers, newsletters, community resources communication, curricular, technology ,food services communication, special education, etc. as required CCS and / or ETSS.
8. Perform other duties as required by Youth Program Manager.
9. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and program special events.

Education & Qualifications
College degree preferred. Some college required and willingness to continue professional development.
Must be Fluent in English and in specified language, particularly in the areas of Speaking, Reading and Writing
Must have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as during parent and / or community events
Experience in the use technology and the use of Office Word / Excel / Publisher
Strong communication and public speaking skills in English and specified language
Must have own reliable transportation
Ability to work positively with other parents and CCS staff
Ability to take initiative in coordinating and organizing activities and events
Ability to accurately collect, organize and maintain data and information for reports
Previous experience working with families, and experience working with diverse populations.
