Education, Training and Skills Required:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • OSHA 30
  • CPR/First Aid
  • NFPA70E
  • Competent Climber and Rescuer certification
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in as a crew supervisor/Lead
  • Minimum of 5 years’ working in Telecom construction
  • Advanced knowledge of working at heights and construction methods for the wireless communications industry.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and test telecommunications equipment (PIM, Sweep, fiber testing)
  • Comprehension of construction documents
  • Preparation of closeout packages
  • Passed initial background check and substance screening
  • Driving record must meet Ethos insurance standards
  • Must maintain a valid state Driver’s License
  • High school diploma or equivalent college degree preferred
  • Able to read construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relation skills
  • Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels
  • Advanced computer operation skills
  • Excellent communications skills

Essential Duties (Summary):  Field Construction Manager (FCM) is responsible for successfully executing profitable customer programs by managing up to 6-8 Ethos field crews and all associated field operations, internal staffing, and customer support.  Major responsibilities include:

 

  • Take ownership of financial performance of assigned teams and projects. Successfully meet and exceed revenue and profitability (Gross Margin) goals. 
  • Oversee daily field construction operations and activities of approximately 10-25 persons, which may include multiple customers across multiple states
    • 100% responsible for team performance to safety standards and performance on audits.
    • Help Crews perform at high levels in all aspects, including “Schedule, cost, quality, service”
  • Ensure Ethos crews deliver strong customer value, resulting in healthy customer relationships and strong loyalty and repeat customer programs.
  • Work with Ethos Project Managers (“PMs”) and Crew Leads (“CLs”) to build team capabilities and coach individuals, address hiring needs, terminations, and perform corrective discipline as required.
  • Provide technical and process expertise to CLs.
  • Ensures projects set up for success by personally performing key pre-construction activities for all projects such as permitting, materials, arranging cranes and subcontractors, safety and rigging plans, MOPs, team logistics, etc.
  • Responsible for the following functional areas (see breakout details below)
    • Estimating support for PM
    • Customer relationship development and new customer integration
    • Field operations and crew activities, including project quality
    • Pre-construction planning and execution
    • Team building, crew scheduling, and resource planning
    • Revenue and profit goals including Change Order Management/True-Ups

 

Essential Duties (Detail):

  • Estimating support for Project Manager(s) activities:
    • Perform scoping support such as bid walks, evaluate site conditions relative to scope of work.
    • Support Project Manager on bids/ estimates as needed.
    • Review PM quotes for all projects prior to submission for technical compliance, accuracy, and ability to meet hours and margin goals.
  • Customer relationship development and new customer integration.
    • Manage existing customer relationships and successfully launch new customer programs.
    • Create meaningful relationships with customers; provide weekly customer updates (3x/week )
    • Address customer issues that get elevated from team level. Defuse problems and pull in PM’s where needed for contentious issues.
    • Represent Ethos in daily and weekly customer staffing and activity meetings / EDS meetings.
  • Field operations and Project Quality activities:
    • Coordinate construction schedules with Project Managers (“PMs”) and Crew Leads (“CLs”).
    • Manage crews to achieve estimated hours and budget on projects.
    • Provide oversight for safety and quality during construction on all assigned construction projects, including performing safety audits while visiting crews in the field.
    • Comply with carrier specifications for construction standards including training Crew leads and techs on standards.
    • Ensure teams comply with all Ethos defined and industry standard work processes.
    • Review daily reports every day; provide CLs prompt coaching and support.
    • Review and approval of all documentation including but not limited to construction reports, grounding reports and red-lined as built drawings.
    • Ensure extra works and costs are accurately and effectively captured through change orders.
    • Ensure closeout requirements are submitted in timely manner per customer requirements.
    • Participate in the field 50-75% of time to be able to directly coach Crew Leads and teams and build performance culture.
    • Build culture of company success and not department success. Shares resources as necessary to ensure company fulfills all its obligations.
    • Provide detailed management reports to adequately track performance of operations.
  • Execute critical pre-construction activities – personally ensure projects set up for success by:
    • Ensuring permits are pulled and final inspections are completed as needed for each assigned project.
    • Writing / submitting method of procedures (MOP) per customer requirements.
    • Writing / submitting site specific safety documentation and rigging plans per customer requirements.
  • Team building, crew scheduling and resource planning.
    • Proactively prepare for weekly 1-on-1 PM meetings – report out on projects and field progress.
    • Hold Crew Leads accountable for all Ethos and customer policies.
    • Act as role model for all safety, quality, and environmental procedures compliance.
    • Support leads in managing all team staffing issues, including coordinating rotations, etc.
    • Help develop emerging talent including a pipeline of Top Hands and skilled techs.
    • Collaborate with PM to grow or adjust team counts as required by customer activity.
    • Support interview and hiring process. Take responsibility for hiring/firing on assigned teams.
    • Manage employee performance feedback process with Crew Leads and techs.
    • Run disciplinary processes where required, under direction of PMs/HR.
  • Take responsibility for achieving revenue and 25% gross margin targets on project portfolio:
    • Help CLs understand project economics– build and execute plans to achieve margin targets.
    • Collaborate with CLs to reduce waste, improve productivity, and achieve cost savings.
    • Monitor project costs and margins; troubleshoot root cause issues to improve margins.
    • Identify extra works or chargeable external impacts and prepare Change Order documents.
    • Get Ethos PM approval on change orders and submit to customer.
    • Lead close out / true-up processes and provide PMs supporting documentation as required.
    • Maintain and deliver monthly revenue and cost forecasts to PM and Project Controls.
    • Manage all direct costs including but not limited to labor and team productivity, procurement of materials, sub-contractors, vehicles (trucks and trailers), travel expenses, etc.

Supervision responsibilities:

  • 4-8 direct reports
  • 10-25 total team members

 

Travel:

  • Expected between 50-75% of time in the field.

 

Location:

  • Must be located in the Denver metropolitan area or other region if specifically defined.

The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs and ladders that exceed 300 feet in height.
  • Must be able to work atop freestanding wind turbine towers that exceed 300 feet in height.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working remotely with limited supervisor interaction.
