Ethos is a private, non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting independence, dignity and well-being among the elderly and disabled through quality, affordable and culturally appropriate home and community-based care. As a state-authorized Aging Services Access Point (ASAP), Ethos coordinates all the non-institutional home and community-based services for elderly and disabled residents of the southwest Boston neighborhoods of West Roxbury, Hyde Park, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, and Mattapan and well as, provides city-wide nutrition services in Boston, which serve approximately 2.1 million meal for older adults, delivered to the home (Meals on Wheels) or served in neighborhood congregate settings (Community Cafés). The organization also provides Medicare Counseling (SHINE), Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Money Management and Healthy Aging programs for the entire city of Boston. This Director level position assists the Chief Executive Officer, Board and senior staff with the development of marketing strategies, including media, community outreach, education and programming, organizational branding and fundraising. They implement agreed-upon fundraising, marketing, outreach and community education strategies and serve as an agency-wide consultant to ensure that program and departmental-specific efforts are consistent with and reinforce organizational goals. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, serves as the agency liaison to community organizations and media. The Director creates newsletters and updates for the Ethos constituency. The Director is also responsible for implementing and overseeing all fundraising activities on behalf of the agency and its programs and activities. This position may require occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

DUTIES:

1. Be extremely knowledgeable about Ethos programs.

2. Represent Ethos in a professional, location-appropriate manner.

3. Assist in the development of communication strategies and the evaluation of communications activities.

4. Advocate for media coverage of Ethos, aging concerns and caregiver issues, including preparation of press releases and other relevant press materials, and maintaining ongoing relationships with media contacts.

5. Compile or design materials and literature for outreach/marketing activities.

6. Create and update content for online media including the Ethos website and social media accounts. Work with Human Resources to promote social media recruitment.

7. Organize various community events and activities; recruit supporters, and manage Ethos signature events, provide on-site support during events.

8. Visit selected sites within service area and coordinate with appropriate Ethos staff to also attend. Distribute literature; talk to staff and participants.

9. Oversee all approved agency and program-specific fundraising activities, including events, appeals, planned giving and donor cultivations and solicitations, and supervise the agency grant writer on relevant program grant applications.

10. Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities.

11. Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.

12. Supervise the Development Specialist, oversee database management, supporter/donor communication, and annual appeal.

13. Oversee the maintenance of community, media and other external contacts in an appropriate database.

14. Independently follow-up on all contacts according to guidelines.

15. Document all communications activities including materials distributed, travel and contacts.

16. Perform other, related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor degree in Human Services, Management, Marketing, Communications or related area, with 3-5 years of relevant experience.

2. Experience in marketing, public relations, community organizing, and media advocacy or other related areas.

3. Demonstrated track record of working with community organizations, health care organizations, media venues and elders/caregivers.

4. Affiliations with organizations in the Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Mattapan or Hyde Park areas are a plus.

5. Excellent writing and communication skills, including professional correspondence and assisting in the creation of informational and media materials.

6. Outstanding interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

7. Ability to take initiative, work independently and with others, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

8. Physical ability to access sites.

9. Must have transportation to travel to outreach sites in a timely manner.

10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability and willingness to learn additional software programs. Various graphics skills and SalesForce experience are highly desirable.

11. Experience updating and managing websites, social media pages, online email services, and other basis marketing platforms.

12. Bilingual skills a plus (Spanish, Haitian-Creole, etc.)
