Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, uses advanced skills to work with all metals required, and to weld metal parts together according to layouts, blueprints or work orders using welding processes for given work areas.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Adjusts automatic welder properly for material being welded.
- Lays out and sets up own work.
- Welds parts and subassemblies per blueprints.
- Produces quality weldments and/or welding assemblies in one or more areas.
- Reads blueprints and makes recommendations for changes on prints as needed.
- Orders parts required from supervisor.
- Trains others in setup and welding on any assigned job.
- Performs other duties as assigned by leader or supervisor.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
A masterly knowledge of welding techniques, tools, materials, equipment and blueprint reading is required. Ability to read precision measuring tools is required. ASME or AWS certification is also required. Must be capable of producing top quality welds in all areas. Minimum amount of rework or scrap will be accepted. Skills may be gained through practical experience and/or specialized training. Knowledge of all functions in given work area is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent climbing, bending, twisting and/or lifting approximately 55 pounds (and periodically heavier loads approximately 75 pounds) will be required. All welders must install 60 pounds spools of wire on own welding equipment, as necessary.
