Part Time Lab Technician - Closing Shift 6:30pm - 12am

Summary of Role:

Salary-$20-$22/hour

Part time night shift-Mon through Fri 6:30 p.m.-12:00 a.m. (midnight) with 30min meal break

Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include the following, other duties may be assigned at the company’s sole discretion.

The Lab Tech I performs all closing duties in the lab, including post reaction purification of all plates upon completion of PCR, loading plates onto sequencers, review of paperwork, proper documentation of all required steps, proper lab final clean up and lock up. The Lab Tech I assists with sample sorting, sample measurement, PCR assembly, data entry review and lab maintenance. They will also assist the lab team with maintenance-washing labware, filling tips, autoclaving, making simple buffers, receiving/sorting orders, along with other tasks in the lab. The Lab Tech I also completes all courier pickup/delivery routes on an as needed basis and can supervise and train Lab Assistants.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s or Associate Degree required with science related major, preferably Molecular Biology, Biology or Bio-Chemistry - recent grads and current students are welcome

2. Proactive and independent, needs little guidance once trained

3. Can perform routine tasks independently and is a quick learner

4. Focused, detail oriented and meticulous

5. Has excellent communication, organization and teamwork skills

6. Reliable, dependable and has a sense of urgency

7. Proficient in MS Office

8. Willing to work overtime when needed

Preferred (not required):

1. Familiarity with lab environment in an academic or work setting or prior lab experience/academic undergraduate bench work a plus
2. Familiar with the use of pipettes
3. Have some background knowledge with respect to bacterial transformation, plasmids, and/or sanger sequencing

The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
