GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
We are searching for an engaging, courteous host/ess who is passionate about food and beverage preparation and education. The host/ess will greet customers, answer their questions, manage the restaurant floor flow, and assist the rest of the restaurant team by taking orders, and accepting payments, preparing and serving food and drinks when needed. You will also maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation methods, and presentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Ensure high levels of guest satisfaction.
- Promptly and warmly greeting guests upon arrival.
- Answer phones using appropriate verbiage.
- Greet incoming and departing Guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact; escort them to assigned dining area; present menus; announce waiter’s name
- Inform Guest of current promotion and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staff
- Manage the flow of the restaurant in order to ensure a balance distribution of tables among the servers
- Update the floor chart regularly throughout the shift
- Clean menus as required throughout the shift
- Observe tables and take note of dirty, clean, and occupied tables
- Ensure that the front door area is both maintained and cleaned, both inside and out. This also includes making sure the brass and windows are free of fingerprint and smudge
- Keep the host area stocked with take-away menus, toothpicks, business cards, and other necessary items
- Manage the reservation of the restaurant through the Opentable reservation system following the guidelines of the F&B Director
- Help dining room staff by setting and clearing tables; replenishing water; serving beverages
- Assist Taking food and beverage orders.
- Assist Preparing all drink orders to ette standards.
- Assist Preparing and serving food items.
- Relays order to kitchen through POS.
- Totals bill and accepts payment.
- Execute all financial transactions according to departmental and company policy
- Maintains service and sanitation standards according to health code regulations.
- Inventory and restock supplies as needed.
- Maintain the daily operations of the cafe through the execution of daily sidework.
- Keeps the host podium clean and organized at all times.
- Attend all required trainings and department meetings
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent communication skills (via phone and in-person)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- ServeSafe training
- Thorough and consistent throughout the day with sanitation standards & protocols
- English language and professional communications skills are required
- Experience / Education / Certifications
- Hospitality or customer service experience - recommended
SKILLS:
- Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to diverse guest types.
- Ability to remain calm and well organized under pressure while working quickly.
- Ability to prioritize and maintain multiple tables at a time.
- Keeps emotions under control.
- Ability to properly operate the telephone, Opentable and all software used for the POS system.
- Basic math skills; ability to make change.
- Ability to respond promptly to customer needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests and within the Hotel Departments
- Must speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
- Adaptable to a changing work environment.
- Local knowledge of the community ( attractions, activities, etc.)
