Position Summary
This position is for the 2025/2026 season.
Under direction, to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to an interscholastic sports program; to serve as a resource concerning physical education and physical activity instruction; to instruct and train sports activities groups in attaining proficiency in sport related functions; and to do other related functions as directed.

Essential Functions:
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and participates in the school site interscholastic sports program.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates sports activities and training workouts, and coaches individuals concerning specific physical performance activities and procedures.
- Instructs and demonstrates the principles, methods and techniques of regulating the movement of body, hands, feet to achieve maximum proficiency in the related sport activity.
- Observes sport participants during practice and workout sessions to detect and correct errors in activity procedures and methods.
- Instructs, explains and enforces health and safety rules and regulations.
- Develops and implements physical conditioning programs that allows athletes to achieve maximum performance.
- Reviews, audits and monitors sport activity related injuries and determines the most appropriate time for an athlete to return to active sport participation.
- Selects or assists in the selection of interscholastic sport activity uniforms and related sport apparatus and equipment.
- Assesses the athletic team skills and abilities and the opponents capabilities and determines game strategies.
- Provides a variety of interscholastic sport activities, which requires the coordination of travel and equipment transporting of out-the-area games and activities.
- Confers with, counsels, and advises site administrators concerning interscholastic sports programs and activities.
- May participate or coordinate opponent scouting activities.
- May perform a variety of demonstration teaching, and sport activity methods and techniques demonstrations for physical education instructional personnel and other sport activity coaches.
- May make recommendations to revise, update, and incorporate creative and innovative trends into the District interscholastic sports programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Principles, goals, and objectives of public education;
- Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective interscholastic sports program;
- Policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic sport performances; Interscholastic sports groups and organizations within the local community and the greater metropolitan area;
- Modem trends pertaining to interscholastic sports programs and activities.
- Provide specialized resource support and coordination of a creative and innovative interscholastic sports program;
- Analyze and assess interscholastic sports program needs, and offer recommendations pertaining to program activity revisions, additions, or deletions;
- Participate in the evaluation of the District interscholastic sports programs and activities; Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls; Communicate effectively in oral and written form;
- Establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships.
- Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Two years of experience as an interscholastic sports coach.
Minimum age of 22 years or be a college graduate.
Preferred, but not required: Experience working as a teacher in a secondary setting.
Education:
Preferred, but not required: Possession of an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in physical education, or closely related areas.
Certification Requirement:
Possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid Certificate, including CPR training methods and procedures.
Preferred, but not required: Possession of a valid credential authorizing service as a secondary physical education or related area secondary level teacher.
Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
