Job Title: Educator
Location: Eugene Science Center
Pay Rate: $16.50/hour
Hours: 24 hours per week (preferred schedule: three 8-hour days; flexibility available)
About Us: Eugene Science Center is a hands-on science center dedicated to inspiring curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through inquiry-based experiences for learners of all ages. We believe in empowering visitors to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through engaging, hands-on activities and fostering a lifelong love for learning.
Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Educator to join our small but dedicated education team. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic STEM advocate who thrives in a collaborative environment and is excited to bring our mission to life through outreach and in-house programs.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate engaging, inquiry-based STEM lessons, activities, and programs for people of all ages, both in the museum and through community outreach.
- Support and adapt to a variety of roles within the education department, including program preparation, facilitation, and event coordination.
- Support our educational team to deliver high-quality educational experiences that align with the museum’s mission and vision.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors, ensuring they feel inspired and encouraged to explore STEM topics.
- Assist with the setup, cleanup, and maintenance of educational materials and spaces.
- Represent the science center in a professional and enthusiastic manner during outreach and in-house events.
Qualifications
- Passion for STEM education and a strong belief in the value of inquiry-based learning.
- Experience working with children and/or in educational settings; museum or informal education experience is a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate and connect with diverse audiences, including children, families, and educators.
- Flexibility to adapt to different roles and tasks within the department.
- Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude in a collaborative environment.
Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented. Requirements HighSchool Diploma or equivalent.
- Availability for 24 hours per week, with a preference for three 8-hour days (scheduling flexibility available).
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds.
