What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head and Assistant Cheer Coach position at Eugene Youth Cheer?
Eugene Youth Cheer’s mission is to educate, empower and energize youth through the sport of cheerleading. We are looking for one head coach and two assistant coaches to lead our team through our second competitive season.
Duties for Head Coach:
· Manage practices, which will take place twice per week for 1.5 to 2 hours during the season (mid-September through February). Ensure the safety of all participants at all times.
· Teach basic cheer moves (motions, cheers/chants, basic jump and stunt technique) and competition and other routines.
· Take the lead on developing the competition routine.
· Provide guidance to assistant or volunteer coaches.
· Email parents/participants weekly with updates on practices, competition schedule, fundraisers and other news.
· Help coordinate team attendance at competitions and other performances. Attend all competitions.
· Communicate with Board of Directors regularly.
Duties for Assistant Coach:
· Assistant with all practices at the direction of Head Coach. Lead practices when Head Coach is unable to attend. Ensure the safety of all participants at all times.
· Teach basic cheer moves (motions, cheers/chants, basic jump and stunt technique) and competition and other routines.
· Help coordinate team attendance at competitions and other performances. Attend all competitions.
Desired Experience/Skills:
· At least two years of recent cheerleading experience.
· Some prior coaching experience in preferred.
· Some experience working with elementary and middle school youth preferred.
· Experience teaching tumbling is beneficial but not required.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requirements:
- OSAA Spirit Safety Course
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching OSAA Beyond the Scoreboard (must choose one)
- NFHS Concussion in Sports
- NFHS Heat Illness and Prevention
- NFHS Appearance & Performance Enhancing Drugs & Substances
- First aid and CPR certification
- Coaches must be at least 18 years old.
- Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Compensation: $3,500 stipend for head coach; $2,500 stipend for assistant coach. Please note that coaches are independent contractors, not employees.
