SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $65,000

School Description:

Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School is a K-12 school, serving over 900 students. EMHCS offers a dual language program in grades K-2 and a Spanish Language Arts program for grades 3-12. Our school collaborates with staff, students and parents to create partnerships for learning. It is the mission of the Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School to create a safe and nurturing community of learners where students earn the Seal of Biliteracy (English and Spanish), learn to advocate for social justice and are prepared to enjoy and access what the world has to offer.

Summary of Position:

The Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School (EMHCS) has been expanding the educational options for Rochester students since opening its doors in September 2000. The school’s dynamic programming accelerates students’ mastery of complex skills and concepts, fosters their development as advocates for social justice, and ensures students are prepared to access and enjoy all that the world has to offer. Grounded in the school community’s Habits of Work (perseverance, collaboration, integrity, responsibility, and optimism), EMHCS prepares students to earn the Seal of Biliteracy (English and Spanish) while implementing the EL Education model. EMHCS is in an exciting growth phase and is looking for passionate educators to join our team as we support students in achieving high levels of success in high school, college, careers, and life.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide instruction, individually and in groups
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences that allow all children to build upon their prior knowledge and current skill levels
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and school policy
  • Work constructively with colleagues and others for improving the quality of students’ behaviors and academic success
  • Participate in school activities and events
  • Communicate to parents the level of student achievement and progress toward established classroom, school and state standards
  • Work with administration to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning
  • Attend meetings and serve on staff committees as appropriate
  • Follow State Education Department Regulations
  • Identify the learning abilities of students, seeking the assistance of specialists
  • Evaluate the accomplishments of students on a regular basis
  • Provide progress reports

  • Must have experience working with school-age children in a structured setting
  • Must obtain a clear background check through fingerprinting
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions

  • Must be available for meetings and trainings outside working hours
  • Must have the ability to reflect on one’s own performance
  • Must be committed to work the full school year and summer as needed
  • Must be able to interact positively with others
  • Must be sensitive to each family’s values, beliefs, traditions and cultural influence

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Initial certification and or appropriate additional graduate work for permanent certification. (NY State Teaching Certificate in subject area)
  • Master’s preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
