Position overview
We are seeking an Associate Director-level candidate to join our Consumer & Retail team. This is an excellent position for someone with 4 to 7 years of experience who wants to deepen their expertise in client strategy, political risk advisory, and global consumer trends.
This role centers on retaining and growing Eurasia Group’s corporate client base in the consumer and retail sector by providing exceptional service and geopolitical insight. You’ll work closely with leading CPG companies, food & beverage manufacturers, luxury brands, and global retailers—helping them manage policy and reputational risk, navigate international market entry, and respond to fast-evolving regulatory and consumer pressures.
The ideal candidate is a sharp communicator and trusted advisor, someone who thrives in cross-functional collaboration and is excited to support the development of forward-looking strategies for some of the world’s most visible and impactful companies.
The Associate Director may be based out of our offices in New York or Washington DC.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of political risks impacting the consumer and retail sector, including global trade tensions, sustainability regulations, labor and sourcing pressures, shifting consumer expectations, and reputational risk trends.
- Build and maintain deep relationships with corporate clients, primarily within corporate affairs, sustainability, strategy, risk, and legal teams.
- Develop and execute account strategies for key clients and support senior team leadership in business development planning, opportunity mapping, and strategic pitches.
- Translate geopolitical analysis into actionable, business-relevant insight for clients—tailored to sector-specific concerns such as product labeling, packaging restrictions, sourcing legislation, inflation response, or ESG-related backlash.
- Work closely with analysts, researchers, and sales teams to deliver integrated, high-quality service.
- Support tracking and coordination of client deliverables using internal tools and systems; maintain client servicing trackers and records of deliverables, timelines, and key touchpoints.
- Serve as a key point of coordination for complex, multi-stakeholder projects, ensuring seamless cross-team collaboration.
- Maintain an up-to-date business development pipeline using Salesforce, and support proposal development, contract management, and client onboarding.
- Contribute to internal discussions on thought leadership and sector strategy by identifying emerging trends and policy risks for multinational consumer-facing companies.
Desired skills and qualifications
- 4 to 7 years of experience in a client-facing role, ideally with a background in corporate affairs, consulting, account management, or political risk advisory.
- Demonstrated understanding of the political, regulatory, and reputational challenges facing the consumer and retail industry.
- Prior experience managing strategic client relationships and supporting business development and sales efforts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into accessible insights for senior corporate stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and coordinate across dispersed teams and time zones.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required; relevant graduate studies, certifications, or sector-specific experience is a plus.
- A self-starter mindset, adaptability to fast-paced environments, and a strong team ethos.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
