Position Accountable To:  Clinic Manager

Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer’s status.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs nursing care to patients.  Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. 
  • Provides direct care to patients as well as follow-through care per telephone.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.  Obtains vital signs
  • Performs procedures such as tympanograms, EKG, ear irrigation, vision testing and monitor minor surgical procedures.
  • Triages phone calls from patients requesting any type of medical information.  Document information given to patients on a telephone to the medical record.  Oversees appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations.  Maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Organizes and follows through on medical reports and records of patients.
  • Responsible for on-going patient education.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Administration of intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
  • Responsible for cleansing and care of equipment and instruments.
  • Responsible for maintaining nursing skills through continuing education.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested
  • Ability to be a team player and work well with others.
  • Ability to alter schedule to meet the needs of the clinic and patients.
  • Ability to register a patient in computer system if necessary.
  • Conduct pre-authorizations for patients.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Assists with organizing drug samples (and documentation of samples) and medical supplies
  • Responsible for follow-through of hospital patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Physical Demands:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.  Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

Work Environment

Education:

Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.

Licenses/Certificates

Current license from the state of South Dakota Board of Nursing.  CPR certified, ACLS preferred.

Experience:

 A minimum of one year of nursing experience is desired.

Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills in dealing with co-workers, patients, physicians, and others.

Demonstrates current, up-to-date nursing knowledge.  Ability to use the telephone and computers.   

Demonstrates knowledge of clinical care needs of all age groups.
