EAG Laboratories has an opportunity for a Service Engineer to provide engineering service and support to our fleet of analytical instruments and ancillary equipment. This individual will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of EAG’s analytical instruments and ancillary equipment located at the East Windsor, NJ lab.
This role may require periodic travel to other EAG laboratories to include Sunnyvale, CA and Phoenix, AZ and occasional travel to other sites.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and log routine/preventive and emergency service on instruments and peripherals according to maintenance plan/schedule, including but not limited to vacuum pumps, ovens, sputter coaters, purge boxes, secondary ion mass spectrometers (SIMS), auger electron spectrometers (AES), X-ray photoelectron spectrometers (XPS), stylus profilers, other.
- Install utility connections for equipment listed herein, including electrical, deionized water, compressed air, pressurized gasses, vacuum lines, communication links, and customized needs as required.
- Maintain (including purchasing) and organize adequate stock levels of spare parts and peripherals.
- Maintain, organize, and create technical documentation, procedures, schematics, work instructions, and parts lists.
- Provide timely updates to management in the form of status reports and service reports.
- Assist and support facility/infrastructure when needed to maintain suitable working environment for instruments.
- Troubleshoot and debug electronic circuitry (analog/digital)
- Assist with the development and implementation of computer-based service management system.
- Provide Collaboration on day to day building function, operations including areas in safety, maintenance, and facilities.
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm
Some off hours (weekday evenings, or weekends) may be needed.
Experience in the following areas is desirable: CAD tools, Beam generating instruments (Electron, Ion, X-Ray, etc); high vacuum, electro-mechanical assemblies.
- AS or BS degree in Computer science, electronics or electrical engineering with 2 years of experience troubleshooting equipment or instrumentation.
- Troubleshooting/repairing high voltage circuitry, high vacuum systems, analog/digital circuitry, electro-mechanical assemblies, and related systems preferred.
- Service experience with spectrometers, SEM, TEM, SIMS, X-Ray instrumentation.
- Must be highly skilled in proper use of tools of trade, able to operate independently and as part of team, provide and follow written and verbal instructions, effectively utilize multiple forms of communication (e-mail, phone, etc.), and maintain a professional and cordial manner towards co-workers, vendors, and customers throughout the daily execution of duties.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Capable of lifting up to 50Lbs.
- Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
- Require close distance visual acuity with or without correction (Glasses, Contacts, etc.)
- Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
- Ability to communicate clearly and understandably ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
- Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.

Compensation Salary Range: $82,000-$90,000/year (Salary is commensurate with experience and degree of technical expertise.)
