Job Description
Since 1999, Eurofins Genomics Blue Heron(Blue Heron Biotech) has been a pioneer in the gene synthesis industry and has delivered tens of millions of base pairs of perfectly accurate genes to thousands of customers worldwide using its proprietary GeneMaker® multi-technology platform. Position Summary:
The Team Leader for Gene Assembly is responsible for performing all activities associated with cloning and high-throughput gene synthesis process (approx. 50%), lead in the investigation and troubleshooting of failed targets (20%), training of new employees (10%), and writing and maintaining the Gene Assembly SOP documents (approx. 10%). The Team Leader for Gene Assembly will also be assigned non-standard assembly projects; and assembly of critical reagents and buffers (10%).

The Team Leader for Gene Assembly will also be assigned non-standard assembly projects; and assembly of critical reagents and buffers (10%).
Position Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Clone DNA into expression cloning vectors.
- Carry out gene cloning steps, including strategy review, enzymatic DNA restriction and modification, PCR primer design and PCR, gel electrophoresis, band isolation and DNA purification, and ligation using standard and proprietary methods.
- Track and monitor cloning results and follow-up as needed with sequencing, restriction, or PCR analysis.
- Troubleshoot and remake any failed PCR, ligations, restriction digests, and/or transformations.
- Review sequencing data for troubleshooting and quality control purposes.
- Lead by example and encourage team members to their full potential.
- Perform production protocols according to established company operating procedures and assist with general production support as needed.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team; meet goals for accuracy, production deadlines and throughput utilizing the company’s proprietary gene-synthesis platform and related tools.
- The ideal candidate is self-motivated, possesses outstanding organizational skills, and the demonstrated ability to perform as an effective team member.
- He/she will have a strong background in molecular biology with hands-on knowledge of the uses and properties of DNA and enzymes, PCR and thermocyclers, gel electrophoresis, photo documentation, and sequence review.
- Experience utilizing and manipulating data via databases is preferred.
- Good computer skills, precise attention to detail, record keeping, and adherence to protocols is required.
- Experience with liquid handling robots or complex laboratory equipment are highly desirable.
Schedule:
- This 8 hr position will require weekend work: Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
