Job Description

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility: 

The Cloud Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrading the Company’s cloud infrastructure. Using industry best practices for governance, security, and compliance, designs and develops highly available and scalable architecture and systems to support cloud deployments in a high-paced healthcare environment. Identifies specific technologies and services for cloud-native applications and services. Adapts and migrates existing on-premise applications and processes to be cloud-optimized. Advises management on cloud best practices. This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead complex projects.

Essential Job Duties:

Level I - Minimum

• Assist in research, evaluation, and recommendation of AWS, Azure, and Office 365 architecture and infrastructure solutions in support of complex business requirements. 
• Assist in designing, configuring, or upgrading cloud infrastructure.
• Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving connection, reliability, or performance issues.
• Keep the workroom neat, organized, and secure.
• Work under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.
• Consult with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience.
• Apply basic application management and administration skills with a moderate level of proficiency.
• Represent the department and the organization favorably and in accordance with established Company standards and associate attributes.
• Work within defined ITIL processes such as change and incident management.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Level II – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level I plus the following:

• Research, evaluate, and recommend AWS, Azure, and Office 365 architecture and infrastructure solutions in support of complex business requirements. 
• Design, configure, or upgrade cloud infrastructure.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve connection, reliability, or performance issues with little guidance from senior members of the team.
• Work within and assist with management of defined IT processes and procedures.
• Work with little to no supervision with latitude for independent judgment.
• Consult with senior peers on medium to complex projects.
• Assist in overseeing the primary activities of individual contributors (see above) to ensure completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals.

Senior – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level II plus the following:

• Work with little to no supervision with extreme latitude for independent judgment
• Proficient in all levels and phases of cloud support
• Partner with key vendors to manage and maintain the currency of technology and firmware.
• Serve as an escalation point for issues beyond more junior team members' authority; resolve conflicts involving scheduling, resources, or technical issues
• May be responsible for helping to plan the annual budget for the department's personnel, capital, and/or operation expenses

Lead – Fully meets the responsibilities of Senior plus the following:

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers while fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other IT and business teams across the organization.
• Manage team members, project resources, timelines, and deliverables to ensure timely completion.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Level I - Minimum

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience deploying and managing public cloud-based infrastructure in AWS and Azure environments.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience deploying, configuring, and scaling solutions in a secure cloud environment (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience configuring a secure Office 365 environment, including Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience monitoring the cloud environment for security risks and the ability to evaluate, respond, and remediate
• Critical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Ability to multi-task
• Knowledge of reference lab operations and processes a plus.
• Knowledge and management of System Development Lifecycle Methodologies.
• Experience with Agile approaches and concepts.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and general DevOps practices.
• Experience in maintaining technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution
• Goal-oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills

• Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
• High level of proficiency with PC-based software programs, including MS Office suite, Visio, and project management tools.

Level II – Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:

• Minimum of 3-7 years of experience deploying and managing public cloud-based infrastructure in AWS and Azure environments.
• Minimum of 3-7 years of experience deploying, configuring, and scaling solutions in a secure cloud environment (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
• Minimum of 3-7 years of experience configuring a secure Office 365 environment, including Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Minimum of 3-7 years of experience monitoring the cloud environment for security risks and the ability to evaluate, respond, and remediate
• Experience using and applying System Development Lifecycle Methodologies.
• Experience working in DevOps and Infrastructure as code environments
• Previous experience in a reference lab or similar regulated/controlled environment.

Senior – Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:

• 7 years of experience deploying and managing public cloud-based infrastructure in AWS and Azure environments.
• 7 years of experience deploying, configuring, and scaling solutions in a secure cloud environment (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
• 7 years of experience configuring a secure Office 365 environment, including Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint.
• 7 years of experience monitoring the cloud environment for security risks and the ability to evaluate, respond, and remediate
• Demonstrated positive experience with System Development Lifecycle Methodologies
• Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience implementing and maintaining Infrastructure-as-code.
• Senior-level AWS or Azure certification.

Lead – Fully meets the qualifications of Senior plus the following:

• Minimum 1-3 years leading a team of engineers and technicians.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets, and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
• Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
• Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
• Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make valid judgments and decisions.
