The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation. We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.
About the Mission Investment Fund
The Mission Investment Fund (MIF), a financial ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, supports the establishment and growth of ELCA congregations, synods, and affiliated ministries by providing loans for capital projects for congregations and ministries. To fund these loans, MIF offers a variety of investments to ELCA members, congregations, and ministries. The ELCA Federal Credit Union (FCU), a financial ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, offers financial products and services to ELCA members, pastors, congregations, synods, affiliated ministries, and their employees. The portfolio of products includes low-cost loans, deposit accounts, credit cards, and other financial products, services, and solutions within a not-for-profit, cooperative structure.

About the Position
The Client Relationship Manager helps grow loan and investment opportunities with identified Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregations, ELCA-related ministries, and eligible individuals. They build awareness of the Mission Investment Fund (MIF), identify needs, and offer appropriate MIF products and services to new and existing clients. Additionally, they will effectively source new sales opportunities through inbound and outbound communication channels. This position is also responsible for identifying and matching other MIF and Federal Credit Union (FCU) service and product needs and referring those opportunities to the appropriate area of expertise.
This is a full-time, regular, exempt, Chicago-based hybrid position. This position has responsibilities that will require being in the office on a weekly basis.
The eligibility of a candidate for remote or hybrid positions may depend on the residency of the candidate, and the budget for the role, including salary or pay, insurance coverage, and/or tax burden. Candidates for this position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States. Requirements
- Conducts outbound prospecting call to potential and existing clients, including congregations, ministries, and individuals to sell products and services. Cultivates relationships with decision-makers, ensuring a deep understanding of their financial needs and aligning them with MIF solutions. Presents and explains MIF’s financial products, including loans, and investment opportunities to prospective and existing clients. Actively identifies and pursues new investment and loan opportunities while nurturing long-term partnerships.
- Manages leads identified through marketing, public relations, staff referrals, and search engine results. Qualifies prospects and identifies market segmentation alignment and partners with the external sales team for follow-up. Creates awareness of and cross-sells additional products and services when opportunities are identified and provides those leads to the appropriate MIF or FCU personnel for follow-up.
- Collaborates with internal teams to ensure client onboarding, account management, and service excellence. Within CRM, tracks, manages, and reports progress on sales pipelines and individual outreach efforts. Leverages data such as sales analytics, CRM insights, and market trends to identify target audiences and prioritize outreach efforts.
- Learns and maintains knowledge in all aspects of MIF/ELCA FCU loan and investment products and services. Stays informed about trends in the financial services industry. Maintains all necessary licenses and /or certifications necessary to follow state and federal requirements.
- Represents MIF at church events, conferences, and community gatherings as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 5 years in financial services, preferably in business development, sales, or relationship management.
- Proven experience working with extension funds, nonprofit organizations, or mission-driven financial institutions.
- Demonstrated ability to explain the features and benefits of financial products offered by banks and credit unions.
- Proficient in Financial Services Cloud or similar software. Proven experience using CRM for client relationship documentation and pipeline management.
- Understanding of MIF and the ELCA, their operations and the overall mission.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues around the country to maintain a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral, and written communication skills.
- College degree or equivalent experience.
Series 63 license preferred.
